Setting Up EMC2 for a Stepper System

1. Download and Install EMC2 Wiki or Linux

   1. I had to install a new hard drive to get Linux to work, some have had to replace the video card etc.

   2. When you can get the live cd to work then your past step one!

2. Figure out what hardware you need.

   1. Figure out what size stepper you require. Mechanical Spreadsheet

      1. For my system I used Automation Direct Steppers

   2. Figure out what drive will do the job for you.

      1. In the case of a plasma speed is most important.

      2. Run a latency test and determine how fast your computer is.

      3. Then figure out how fast your drive is at that speed. StepTimingCalculator (Open Office)

         1. I have added a bit to the StepTimingCalculator spreadsheet to calc speed.

         2. Pay attention to the timing of the drives if you need the speed.

            1. A Gecko 203V is much faster than a 202 because of the direction timing.

   3. Figure out what power supply you need.
